KAMAO! Manny Pacquiao

KAMAO! Manny Pacquiao

What a life! This month’s feature for our school newsletter is about an athlete who really knows the term hard work and determination. He is Manny Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao is one of the most well known athletes today. He is known by many as one of the most influential persons today. He may be poor, but he is very successful today.

Manny Pacquiao is just a simple guy with humble beginnings. He started his boxing skills while he was still a young kid who has just dreamt of being a boxer by punching the trees of the school he is attending. He was always told by the teacher to quit on doing it. But, as he grew up, he became an amateur boxer then elevated to the professional boxing via Vintage Sports’ Blow by Blow on PTV-4 wherein he debuted on January 22, 1995 defeating Edmund Ignacio. Throughout the years, he has suffered going up of down, by facing popular names in boxing such as Lehlohonolo Ledwaba, Agapito Sanchez, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Oscar Larios, Juan Manuel Marquez, Hector Velazquez, Jorge Solis, and recently, Oscar Dela Hoya. It seems that Pacquiao is really a great boxer.

Due to this, he would later have endorsements such as Nike, Datu Puti, Darlington, Magic Sing, San Miguel Beer, Talk ‘n Text, and others. And he also has a beautiful wife named Jinkee, who was then a beauty queen. Later, he would have 4 children named: Jimwell, Michael, Princess, and Queen Elizebeth. What a name made by Pacquiao! Actually, he was the one who made that name. Outside boxing, he is also a media personality. He would appear on shows such as Pinoy Records and Totoy Bato, both aired on GMA-7 which is still running. Totoy Bato, though, is about to air in the next months. He is also a politican, he once ran for Congressman in the First district of Cotobato during the 2007 elections under the KAMPI party but he came short to incumbent Congressman Darlene Antonino-Custodio.

His boxing popularity the year before made him happy today. First, he was honored by the Yahoo! Sports Fighter of the Year in 2008, , 2008 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Honorary Award for Sports Excellence , 2008 Fighter of the Year , 2008 Sports Illustrated Boxer of the Year , 2008 Fighter of the Year, 2008 Boxer of the Year, and 2008 Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year. This really proves that Filipinos can also dominate in the big world of Sports.

To Sir Manny, we salute you and we hope that you can have also a bright future for you, and for also every Filipino living in the world. And lastly, you made every Filipino inspired and happy. Thank you very much for your honor you have showed the past year. Let’s cheer for him in his next fight vs. Ricky Hatton. Saludo ako sa kamao mo! Para sa ‘yo ang laban na ‘to, Manny! Ok ka!
