Copyright philstar.com, 2009, All Rights ReservedBasketball aficionados have seen lately the rift between a fan and Burger King veteran guard Wynne Arboleda as he was given by the PBA board a year suspendion as it will effectively start tomorrow, when the Whoppers face the struggling San Miguel Beermen at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Last Friday, during the BK-Smart Gilas game at the Araneta Coliseum, Arboleda was in foul trouble when he suddenly mauled a fan near the courtside. According to my sources, the fan, who’s name is Alain Katigbak, an Atenean and a big Chris Tiu fan, insulted the veteran gurad by calling him offensive names, especially about Arboleda’s age. Arboleda gave Katigbak 5 punches in the body, as his teammate, Mark Yee, even joined the fight as he threatened the fan. After, the BK bench went to Arboleda as he did an unprofessional sports act. He later made a public apology.

Financially, Arboleda is about to lose P2.73 million from his salary. Now turning 33 on Nov. 28, he started playing in Manila via MLQU before jumping straight to the MBA and the PBA, via stints with Laguna Lakers, Pop Cola, Tanduay, and eventually, Burger King respectively. He also has a connection to the Lina family, who are the owners of the franchise Wynne’s playing, as Bert’s daughter, April, is her wife. He is ruled not to attend BK’s games, and not to play in the other leagues. Katigbak is expected to file charges against the veteran guard.
