The Purefoods TJ Giants has already reclaimed the PBA wars as the most successful team to win the Philippine Cup as they defeated the Alaska Aces yesterday at the Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, with the score of 86-76, scoring a historic 4-game sweep.

Finals MVP and Best Player of the Conference James Yap had his lucky day as he showed his usual moves, which made him win both plaques, as other contributors such as Kerby Raymundo and Paul Artadi. He said in an interview from Solar TV (PBA’s TV coveror) that his two awards are paid tribute for Pres. Cory Aquino, who died last year.

The Tender Juicy Giants, who will be known as Derby Ace Llamados (thanks jaemark este Fire Quinito), is the fifth winningest ballclub in PBA history, tied with Brgy. Ginebra with 8 titles and they are behind. Alaska (12), Crispa (13), Toyota (9), and San Miguel (18).  This is their fifth All-Filipino title in the entire franchise history. Their fifth AFC title is the first title sweep in the said conference, third overall in the league history. The other two are Northern Cement (1985 Reinforced Conference vs. Manila Beer) and Swift Mighty Meaty (1992 Third Conference vs. 7-up)

Alaska, on the other hand, has lost two consecutive AFC finals appearances, the other with Talk ‘N Text winning the Phil. Cup last year, yet they still shine as one of the most powerful elites in the PBA, as they just ended up failing.

For the Giants, this was a fairytale ending as they finally won the bacon for the first time in four years. Prior to that, many critics have looked down to the Giants as they began to fail every conference they play, due to the lack of the playing style of Coach Ryan Gregorio, but yesterday, everything was changed, Gregorio proved his critics wrong as he can finally celebrate whenever he wants.

Congratulations Giants!
