MIKE TYSON

MIKE TYSON

Boxing great Mike Tyson feels really bad and terrible, not because he lost a fight, but he lost a child in his rollercoasher life, Exodus Tyson, 4 years old, died of a tragic accident.

She died because she played in a treadmill during a normal day, and when the wires of the said equipment crumpled over her body and she cannot breath anymore due to its tight crumpling which led to her demise. There were no funeral arrangements, although there would be also an autopsy which will be performed in a few days.

DENVER GOES WILD!

by Jose Antonio A. Conde

In an arena, you can mix pressure and intensity among the people going there, but how about scheduling a show and a game, can you do that at the same time?

Recently, the Pepsi Center are having a schedule conflict between WWE and the NBA, who are having their respective events at the same date, but different times. NBA has Denver-LA West final Game 4 at 7pm, while WWE has its own SmackDown show at 6pm, and this so confusing. We all know that Denver are just Playoff losers during this decade, but just succeeded just this season to reaching higher hopes, and so WWE accidentally scheduled that event. But the NBA did not already rescheaduled that since it that would be permanent, and the trouble started.

Let’s see who will take over the sked. Maybe I have one concept, what if the WWE ring is placed in the Nuggets center court? Innovative right? How about the entrace? Pls. do the old style and let’s look at the outcome. Oh well, that’s life

THE ORACLE OF HARBOUR CENTRE

HARBOUR CENTERS SIX STRAIGHT TITLES

HARBOUR CENTER'S SIX STRAIGHT TITLES

by Jose Antonio Conde

Amateur basketball in the Philippines has so many dynasties to count, from ESQ to Magnolia to Tanduay and to Welcoat. But one franchise made a dynasty in the Philippine Basketball League, 6 titles to count, and produced several stars, that’s Mikee Romero and his Harbour Center Batang Pier Portmasters, now known as the Oracle Residences Titans.

One lousy day, in 2004, businessman Mikee Romero, thought of something that he has never thought in his entire life. His company, the Harbour Centre was still having its own beginnings, when it became the newest team in the league. Romero himself has been already participated in Basketball scene, by being a reserve for the DLSU Green Archers in the 90’s and playing for the Alumni League alongside team manager Erick Arejola. And as usual, they had their birth pains, even thou they had Basketball rival superstars Mark Cardona and Larry Fonacier around, and also for Tonichi Ytturi, the Portmasters’ first coach.

But the departure of Cadona and Fonacier still had struggles, despite having new and fresh players such as Jason Ballesteros, Rico Mairehofer, Joseph Yeo, and Marcy Arellano. Also, they had a new coach in UE’s Dindo Pumaren, but he later resigned due to some reasons. He was later replaced by former Stag player Jorge Gallent, who was also the former assistant coach of CSB Blazers in the NCAA under Tonichi Ytturi and his cousin, Caloy Garcia. But struggles will still have come there, until one day in 2006, things have started to move on, as they became competitive, and the rest is history.

They would beat higher-ranked teams such as Granny Goose and eventually, the Toyota Otis-Letran (led by uprising Fil-Am Joe DeVance and Mark Andaya) in the finals, 3-1. And the streak continues as they defeat other teams such as Mail and More Comets, ML Kwarta Padala, Hapee Toothpaste Sparklers, and eventually, Magnolia Purewater Wizards in the next title matches.

Gallent, now 38, has poduced talents such as LA Tenorio, Joseph Yeo, Chico Lanete, Ryan Arana, Rico Mairehofer, Ty Tang, Mark Barroca, and his greatest recruit——-Talk ‘n Text’s Jason Castro. Castro moved to the Batang Pier after playing a stint with PCU’s PBL team, the Hapee-PCU Sparklers, Castro’s emergance and quickness led him to several achievements, include three  PBL MVPs and a PBL Finals MVP. And that’s a true testament to others.

Somehow, somewhere, things started to change after winning their sixth title, first, they lost Jorge Gallent to Burger King as an assistant making associate coach Glenn Capacio to be promoted to the head coaching duties. Also, Romero admitted that the name “Harbour Centre” will never be used in many Basketball leagues again, and several names began to appear, from Team R2 Builders to that Oracle Residences, who once appeared in the revamped WPBL with the UP Fighting Maroons.  In return, Romero made Batang Pier Foundation, Inc. so that many people will remember how far they have came into this league and how good they are at all times.

Now named Oracle, they were still the same as the Batang Pier we once knew, even with a new coach, the chemistry still remains intact and well-developed, as they still dominated the standings, via 8-0 sweep. And the dynasty is still rising up! They might take the challenge until they win over and over again, maybe until googol years will do!

2008-09 BOSTON CELTICS

2008-09 BOSTON CELTICS

by Jose Antonio A. Conde

Countless injuries and transactions—-that’s the 2008-09 NBA season for the Boston Celtics, defending the title was really difficult for them.

Celtics started the season having a good and decent record, even topped the NBA standings early in the season. But one game in the season made things starting to shake, a defeat vs. the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day, Celtics felt like they were the losers, and it started to affect the entire team.

First, they lost many games, and also made some transactions, like losing Sam Cassell to the Kings (the NBA’s worst team this season, he did not even played a single game with both teams) and the resurgence of bad boy Stephon Marbury, who was marred by rumored trades and controversies.

But there are also some players, who emerge a lot, despite losing its major players, and now that’s how Rajon Rondo, Leon Powe, Glen Davis, and Kendrick Perkins are described. Oh well, deep bench.

Despite the emergence of the Celtics’ bench, the Celts still show some signs of failures, losing to less-known teams like LA Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Chicago Bulls made them lousier than ever. Because of this, they still had a good and decent record in 62-20, they took the 2nd seed in the East.

Playoff time! Time goes on but two key players became a huge loss to the franchise, Kevin Garnett (who suffered a knee injury) and benchwarmer Leon Powe. And it started to show it, when they were almost upsetted by the Chicago Bulls, who are actually an upstart team having Derrick Rose and Vinny Del Negro as the key people in the franchise. But the Celtics showed their big heart and Green pride during the 7th game, and so they won the series. This was also Rajon Rondo’s breakout series, who was averaging double-double every game, which made the team impressed a lot.

Their next competitor was the rising force of Orlando Magic with Dwight Howard. And they showed another big heart and pride in the 7 games they have played, especially in Game 4, when Glen Davis made a crucial shot which made them very powerful and also a haunting performance by Stephon Marbury, who scored the reamining points for the C’s in the final period of Game 5. That became the turning point of all of their failures. But they showed all their frustrations again in the next 2 games, but they still gave it all, without Garnett. This was a good year for them. Pierce even admitted that if not for all those injuries, they would already have a good season.

Have a great next season, Celtics! We still believe in you!UBUNTU!

PACMAN: THE GREATEST?

by Jose Antonio A. Conde

MANNY PACQUIAO

MANNY PACQUIAO

Oh well, Manny Pacquiao seems to be very happy now, because of what he has achieved now, from boxing titles to sports awards, and even an appreciation day just only for him. But, one question has been curiously asked by many, is he definitely the greatest athlete ever?

Well, in my opinion, he is really the greatest, in fact he doesn’t feel appreciated, most Boxing and sports analysts around the world, feel that Pacquiao, is undoubtedly the greatest pound-for-pound boxer ever. Now most people today treat Manny Pacquiao like Michael Jordan, Basketball’s greatest superstar ever. Pacquiao may be the greatest yet he may be still humble.
