MICHAEL JACKSON

Music great and “The King of Pop” Michael Jackson died last Thursday afternoon in the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California due to Cardiac arrest and heart attcak, although there is still no official reason why he died, despite the LA Police are still investigating it.

Jackson, 50, debuted into the music scene via The Jackson 5 at age 4, later came out of the Jackson 5’s shadows at age 14, via the single “Ben”, which won the Best Song Award from the Golden Globe, and the rest is history, Jackson would later came back in 1979 and later emerged into one of the music’s most popular singers, even managed to have a few #1 Billboard hits like “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough”, “Thriller”, and “Bad”.

FIRST DAY RUSH

by Jose Antonio A. Conde

Say what?! School’s back! And most people would usually feel pressured, but yours truly felt the vice versa one (Just 50/50 FYI). Last Monday, June 22, my school, OB Montessori Greenhills, kicked off their school year with a big bang! And this was a happy day for me! And as a columnist, I am going to tell you some a series of stories. Now? Let’s do it!

Okay, so when I first entered there, I felt something pressured, wondering that something might happened the same as my WEFI days, but it turned out to be vice versa, so the very first person that I met is Derrick, one of my buddies who are one of my classmates that have been loyal to OB for several years (I wonder if I studided grade school there, dang!)  and he introduced Enrique, Akihiro, Rafael, and Jason (Who’s name is actually Chang Woo), and yes, at that time I can’t still remember their names. Like obviously, it’s first day, it’s just the foundation to friendship. And yeah, I went to Alyza’s place (my summer classmate, FYI) and became her seatmate for a couple of hours. And so the rest is there.

Mrs. Jeanette Fecundo became our adviser and so I was having difficulty in dealing with sweat and air-con, dang it sucks knowing myself that I’m a very sweaty person, uurgh! Oh well, I was owned by Mrs. Fecudo, so owned, I just instead stuck into my chair, and always sweat. Alright, so the classes started, I saw some of my former schoolmates from grade school just seeking something nostalgic!

And so we went to the Maria Montessori Hall which is a gym which is one of a kind, and all HS students had their orientation (and so as I) with Mrs. Duran, our HS principal. Somehow, there was a blopper which made me piss a lot, it’s like this, one of the higher level students made a mistake during the time he was doing the Panatang Makabayan, even Coach Sangco corrected him and the principal was disappointed. And after the flag ceremony, some random thoughts about the teachers of the entire department, having a total of 37 Greenhills HS teachers and a total of 91 in all branches (GH, Sta. Ana, Angeles, and Las Pinas). Oh well, Mr. Dela Pena of CAT made a prank by going into the unusual exit place, this must be very funny I guess.

And so as time flies, perhaps this must be the main event (Wait! What did I say?!), wanna know it now? Alright, so this is unusual or somehow, rare:  For some students, first day seems to be a new era for them, and yet they’re still finding for the right person to deal with, but to me, first day seems unusual to me, why? In my class, I became famous because of a simple, wanna know what it is? A locker. Long story. Here’s my take: One lunch, I was about to open my locker, then I got difficulty in opening it, and some of my classmates began to go outside just to see what’s going on me, and so I found a help from my American friend named Rodge and taught me the correct way to unlock the locker, well my code is correct, but I guess I just failed to manage it properly. Thanks man!!!And so after a sweaty struggle on unlocking the locker for almost half-an-hour, most of my classmates gave me a funny appreaction which made me happier to be in OB.

And I guess I’ll wrap this up yet it was a very happy day, to me. Cheers!!!

A DIFFERENT SUMMER

by Jose Antonio A. Conde

Try interpreting the term summer, wondering and thinking about it, what in the world is that? Hmm…Summer? Okay then, so Summer is something very special to some people, like me and you, every people I guess.

Usually, summers are somehow very exciting and adventurous, let’s say you went to the beach, then have some fun there, and also do anything you want as long as you can do it for sake. Throughout the years, my summer has been very amazing, why because of arousing travel adventures around the world. But this year’s summer seems to be very different, as we say. You have to think why is that different, well because of some random bad happenings we are having. For the first time, I have never been to any beach since 2002, while my father spent going to the beach twice, with his office mates. Unfair.

Oh well, my summer has been always at home, surfing the net or sometimes, doing some architect whatever, I was like drawing some of my own concepts such as houses, uniforms, and yes, even shoes, dang! Or sometimes, I would be visible at malls or somehow, appointments, making it some kind of alternatives for some beautiful beaches, yeah!

Well, if my summer would be bad, then there would be even worst, there were about a bunch of news that evolved my summer, which even made me mesmerized about our world, wanna list it? From the outrageous AH1N1 Flu (which was first known as Swine Flu) which grew so rapidly and the world was shocked and got tensed, so shocked some of them were even affected on it, somehow our country has the most updated cases in the Southeast Asia, which some of them are just “mild cases”.

Another set of news (Wow, lookin’ like a reporter)that invaded our country is the Hayden Kho-Katrina Halili scandal, so many theories to tell and some people involved, from Erik Chua to Princess Velasco to Bistek Del Rosario and to Dr. Vicky Belo, and some women were even involved like Maricar Reyes, Ruffa Mae Quinto, and Bea Alonzo, Therefore, this must be a massacare! Wanna dance again? Earlier, Ted Failon had some trouble with personal problems involving her wife–who suicided herself during one silent day of  April 15,  but he just recently survived over it, eveng manage to have a comeback just this past Monday via TV Patrol World. And yeah, who can ever forget of people dying during my three-month break with the likes of Chuck Daly, Wayman Tisdale, Exodus Tyson, Trina Etong and Douglas Quijano, how sad. And who could ever foget this summer’s winners, from Direk Brillante Mendoza, Oracle Titans, UNC Tar Heels, Los Angles Lakers, Rubilen Amit, Manny Pacquiao and our very own, Team Pilipinas, wow!

In speaking of sprawling headlines, I also went into a new environment, yes a new environment in my life, which is actually entering a new school, my goodness! That experience was really amazing, even managed to meet new friends and buddies to rely on to. And guess what, I even got crushes on that school, some are hot, some are not. But totally, I was happy in a new environment.

Although it was a different summer that I have, not only me, but the entire world, due to random scenes that has happened during these past months, but I would still feel happy, even if I had not been to the beach. Oh well, how about you? Are you happy now?

Hollywood seems to bery happy now, especially Jack Nicholson and Kobe Bryant. The Los Angeles Lakers won their 15th NBA title just moments ago by defeating the Orlando Magic, with a score of 99-86 and a 4-1 standing  in Orlando, Florida.

The Lakers won their 10th title as Los Angles, having the first 5 in Minneapolis, is also a milestone to someone, Coach Phil Jackson, who succeeded the great Coach Red Auerbach by winning 10 NBA titles, 6 with Chicago, and 4 with LA including a three-peat from 2000-2002, most titles won by a NBA coach. And the two then-unsung rookies of 1996, Alabama’s Derek Fisher and HS sensation Kobe Bryant won together their 4th title, and so as Phil Jackson. Bryant, Fisher, Jackson, and his coaching staff are the only remianants from the 2002 team.

And now Kobe would have not been in trouble anymore, after losing 2 straight appearances, he have worked very hard as he can, despite controversies throughout the years like the rape case, his feud with Shaquille ‘O Neal, and some rumored trades, and so he won the Bill Russell Award (Finals MVP) after scoring 30 points 6 rebounds and five assists. Game 4 hero Derek Fisher dished out 13 points, just thanks to his lefty threes. And other players like Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Luke Walton, and Trevor Ariza contributed some points for them to win, which they have prepared really hard, despite trailing during the first half. Here are the scores:

LOS ANGELES (99)- K. Bryant 30, L. Odom 17, T. Ariza 15, P. Gasol 14, D. Fisher 13,  A. Bynum 6, J. Farmar 2, L. Walton 2, S. Vujacic 0

ORLANDO (86)- R. Lewis 18, R. Alston 12, C. Lee 12, H. Turkoglu 12, D. Howard 11, J.J Redick 8, J. Nelson 5, M. Gortat 4, M. Pietrus 4, T. Battie 0

QUARTER SCORES: 26-28, 56-46, 66-61, 99-86
