ATENEO KOs FEU FOR PCCL TITLE

For three straight years, Ateneo Blue Eagles has been wanting to get back this PCCL title as they recently knocked out the FEU Tamaraws, with the score of 70-74 moments ago at the Ynares Sports Arena.

Ateneo started the game like they’re about to win it, as they even led the game by 16 pts., but FEU bounced back as they even led the game by 3 midway in the final period, but the crucial plays of Jai Reyes and Oping Sumalinog made them return to competitiveness as they proved that they’re the best collegiate team in the Philippines. Apparently, in one part of the game, Reil Cervantes of FEU kicked the ball after recieving a turnover, as he was fouled out of the game after.

This is Ateneo’s third PCCL finals appearance, as they won the 2007 and 2009 crowns respectively, only to lose in 2008 to La Salle led by JV Casio.

And as for the annual awards, here’s the complete list:
Referee of the Year: Gamboa of PBL
Coach of the Year: Norman Black, Ateneo
Mythical 5:
Alderich Ramos and RR Garcia, FEU
Eric Salamat and Jai Reyes, ADMU
and Bambam Gamalinda of SBC

Most Valuable Player: Jai Reyes, ADMU

Congrats ADMU!

Sa Dungis ng Takot

This is a very shocking news, guys. From my contact in YM, here’s what my contact sent to me:

Saw this on TV Patrol (TY, Mr. Ryan Chua) . T@t@ng@-t@ng@naman kasi yung yaya eh. At umiiyak pa yung driver, sinabi niya pa na may mali rin ang ADMU Security, di daw masyadong mabilis alertuhin. Sa susunod kasi, mag-ingat.

Sorry for the offensive term. Basta, pray na lang natin siya at condolences po. Nakikiramay po kami.

REVENGE!

by JA Conde

Congratulations to the DLSU Green Archers for winning the 2008 PCC championship! Good luck to them in the upcoming 2009 Unibersidad Games in Serbia.

DLSU defeated ADMU, 71-62 in the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City last Monday, December 8. On the other hand, ADMU lost the game due to the loss of key players like ROY Ryan Buenafe, Hapee stalwarts Chris Tiu (who’s in the US) and Jobe Nkemakolam.

Coach Franz Pumaren of DLSU said that they are the best Colegiate team in the nation today after upsetting ADMU. JV Casio made his best by having 20 points and other key players such as Hyram Bagatsing and PJ Walsham. He won the MVP of the Tournament.

For the record, ADMU leads DLSU in their matches: 5 wins, 2 losses. It started during the Fil-Oil Preseason Tournament wherein ADMU lose that game. Next game which they have faced again in the Nike Summer League Semifinals wherein ADMU started to win games forcing the Eagles to sweep Archers in the UAAP last July, 4-0. Reminding of the 2005 saga wherin Archers swept the Eagles who do not have Chris Tiu who’s studying in France then. And this was their another taste of revenge. Thanks to JV Casio.

Again, congratulations to them and make their best next year.

Congratulations Ateneo! Ateneo Blue Eagles is now declared the UAAP men’s basketball champions last Thursday in the Araneta Coliseum, Septemeber 25, 2008 in the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City defeating the defending champions De La Salle Green Archers, 62-51. Ateneo swept La Salle, 2-0.

Thus, DLSU had a very hot start in the ballgame but Ateneo started to manage a lead in the Second period as they led the entire ballgame although it was a low-scoring ending with Jai Reyes manning the floor late in the Fourth period and eventually won the title. DLSU’s PJ Walsham was oftentimes used during the Game 2 saga. In the third period, DLSU’s Rico Mairehofer made a “middle-finger” gesture as he was pointing either on JV or Rabeh Al-Hussaini. Nobody doesn’t know as Rabeh made 2 free throws and led the ball game stronger than ever.

Ateneo won its 4th UAAP championship, first in 6 years. They ended their dismantling finishes years ago: 2003 vs. FEU and 2006 vs. UST. They became happier than ever as it is. This is Norman Black’s first UAAP title after a sad finish in 2006. During the celebration, Rabeh Al-Hussaini went to the Commentator’s side wherein the ADMU fans were there. Also, Christ Tiu and Al-Hussaini had inspiring words to  Coach Norman. Now here’s one of Rabeh-Norman championship converstions:

Norman: Thank you, Rabeh!

Rabeh: Hindi po, Coach. Thank you po sa lahat.

Very inspiring and heartwarming.

Finals MVP is Nonoy Baclao who is responsible for the “Block 02 in 08” wherein he blocked Rico Mairehofer’s shot. Just a brief note: Mairehofer made an answer to Nonoy’s block by a magical shot vs. Baclao himself during the Third period in the Second game. What a series. Congrats!

Just a footnote: During the Awarding Ceremonies. The entire DLSU team did not received their medals and their trophy but Franz Pumaren, their coach admitted that noboby called them for the award. Also, ADMU Eaglets won the UAAP Juniors Championship (vs. FEU, 2-0) and the SBP Championship (Grade School). What a gradslam! Ateneo has a Bonfire event which will happen on Sept. 30 in the Gesu Field in Ateneo, Katipunan from 6-12 am. Mass will happen at 6 while the Bonfire will start at 7. Seeya there!
